9 Tips to become professional in job?
Becoming professional doesn’t mean skilled in technical thing in your profession but also people skills, common sense, and hunger to know more.
Which lacks the most in today’s career personal.
For example, communication gap created by team members ego and assumption of “I am right & other’s are wrong, I know everything, what I am thinking is what other person wants to tell me”.
So how to overcome these all situations and become a professional?
You can follow below tips to become a professional which helped me to become one:
1. Try to learn more
Learning is a journey and not a targeted point because there is always more to learn even for a master.
A professional person always open mind for new learning, they never think
“ New thing to learn, oh I don't have time, i am not interested, I don't need this”
Advantage is, these new learning s opens the new opportunity for them to become successful. Remember, now opportunity is running behind them, they are not running behind the opportunity.
2. Talk less- talk real
Professional person will never talk and speed negativity, but for sure they talk real. Most people never like reality and try to hide behind the illusion, which costs them a lot in life.
Almost all successful professional people are less talker, but when it comes to the knowledge, they are full of it.
Advantage of less & real talk, talking less -creates a space- which you can use for learning from surrounding & understanding, increase in awareness and space to think about the information consumed.
3. Listen more
Listening skill is always underrated because everyone wants to talk and prove their point — which by the way is the last thing most professional people do.
Listening skills are the way you gather all the information form the people around you and from the surrounding situation.
Advantage, listening is the source to know
when to speak, whom to speak, what to speak, how to speak.
4. Understand others perspective
Understanding other persons opinion is not just being humble and listening to everything they say, it is also a source of knowing what you don’t know.
Understanding what they want, how they want, why they want? lack of this skill creates the communications gap in the most organizations & also in personal life.
Advantage, you don’t have to assume anything, just ask. You learn many unknown things about the work, the perspective and people.
5. Feelings don’t control them
I always hear cases where your relationship with your boss or with a colleague is not going well. So you start standing for your point which may be or may not be right, and even if you know you are not right this time, you continue proving that, because now your feelings are controlling you.
Most of the time the EGO takes over you, that’s why many cases of dispute happen. All you are forgetting is that the work is not about you or proving you right, or your image, it’s about the customer who is using them.
So, try telling yourself that its all bout users, and what is best for them I am gonna do that, work involves in life but work is not whole life- this is how you become calm.
Never do the mistake of controlling your feelings, they will just suppress for now but will come out with more force than ever- which for sure ruin things for you either in work or personal life.
Instead, try understanding, what is right- make yourself understand what is worth feeling and what is not.
6. Keep their promises
I used to say YES to every work my boss asked me because I used to think “I can’t say NO to my boss”.
But turns out now when I approach my boss with realistic plans and present my goals, my boss itself turns the new work down and per priority.
Even if there is pressure, I never take up something which I can’t compete with quality- because my work presents me!!!
8. Build team instead of working alone
Professional people never work alone because it was anyways never about them, it’s about the team. Imagine a boat having a whole and other person standing in the same boat saying “oh thank god the whole is not on my side”. this is the exact thing you do when you are thinking about your goals alone.
Advantage, when teams grow you grow, working with a team — connects you with colleagues which is how you learn new things and new ways, more input, and deliver quality work.
9. Gratitude and appreciation
Professional people appreciate others for their work instead of trying to put their names on the other’s work. This creates a relationship and an Authority for you in your workplace.
You always think you are not appreciated, but when someone works you think that’s expected from them, and what they have done is their job- but guess what just like you another person is also starving for the appreciation and credit.
All you have to do is tell them “Thank you”, “Good job”, “Keep up the good work”, and like comments, That’s all!!!
